We all have problems. But the way we deal with them is different. The way we deal with our problems either makes us or breaks us. In this article, I am sharing five ways people usually deal with problems, going from the least effective to the most effective.

Denial

This is the most common way we deal with problems and it is the least effective way to approach challenges, whether personal or professional. People in denial know that the problem exists, but pretend it doesn’t. They usually do because they simply don’t want to want to take any action to solve their problems.

Dismissal

Some of us may dismiss the problem entirely. This is one of the worst ways to approach a problem. People dismiss problems, usually because of their beliefs or expertise. They may have done some research and if they have found no cause that fits their perception, they simply conclude that there is no problem.

Minimizing

Others minimize their problems. They make it less serious than it actually is.

Maximizing

This tendency is characterized by overthinking a problem. Maximizing a problem makes it hard to even consider solving it, giving it has already been overcomplicated. Any attempt to solve the problem will create mental strains, anxiety, and even depression.

Fight it Reactively

Facing a problem reactively means trying to solve without an elaborate plan. People who react to problems don’t analyze the situation and will come up with the answer they feel is the most appropriate in the moment. In order words, they always come up with short-term solutions to long-term problems.

Face it Proactively

Solving a problem proactively means getting to the bottom of it. We analyze the situations, uncover the triggers, identify potential solutions, and ensure it doesn’t happen again. This is the most effective ways to deal with problems.
