Congratulations! You have run the 4K marathon after three years of diligent training. What now? Many people work assiduously to reach a goal only to give up learning. Complacency sets in. They have given so much sweat that they don’t feel like there is anything for them to do. If you are reading this article, it means you don’t want to make the same mistake. Depending on your situation, you have three choices: either you quit setting goals; you maintain them or you set bigger goals.

Quitting

This option is ideal for those who spent nearly a lifetime reaching their goals. Can you imagine Bill Gates, after spending years developing and running Microsoft, decided to develop the next big thing? For such lofty goals, it makes sense to go straight to retirement or engage in activities completely unrelated to the goal you have achieved. Given the mountains of challenges required to develop a product or service as impactful as Microsoft, it is logical for him to just sit by and enjoy the fruits of his hard work. After all, there is more to life than just setting and reaching goals.

Maintain Your Goals

From 2012 to 2016, I have devoted 6 days to the gym, not to mention money spent on nutrition, training, and equipment. But from 2016, I have reached a level where I feel satisfied with my physique. At this level, I had two choices: either going back to my routine before 2012 or simply maintain my workout habits, but with much less aggressively. I chose the latter. I chose to maintain my physique by working out only two days in the week. Giving up isn’t an option because everyone who works out knows the instant you stop,everything is lost.

Aim Higher

This is the third and my favorite option. It works for most of the goals we work on. No matter where we are, there is always an opportunity to learn and improve. For example, you have made it to the local basketball team. Why not trying to play nationally? Usually, a lack of skills isn’t what’s stopping you, but failure to try created by limiting beliefs.
